A Bad Start to the Year
Starting in December 07, and continuing to the beginning of February 2008, areas 2 and 5 suffered a spate of burglaries. A total of 13 took place, some in Huntley Road, Carbridge Gardens and East Avenue. The better news is that eight of the incidents were quickly cleared up, following the arrest of four criminals, who are now where they belong behind bars.
Just as these incidents were taking place, our Ringmaster system failed. Your neighbourhood watch committee members were not being informed until after the event, and we had no way of cascading the information down through contacts. This is not acceptable.
The Police at Winton agree. They have moved swiftly to finally form their Safer Neighbourhoods team including two Community Beat officers and a new Police Community Support officer (PCSO) and have asked for our help.
The first thing we need to do is update the Ringmaster database. There is a letter from the team explaining more about this, which includes the
Community Messaging Registration form. Any contacts who wish to download the letter and form for completion and return to the team at Winton Police station may do so here.
The Home Office have asked Safer Neighbourhoods Teams to carry out local surveys to gather information from residents about their concerns relating to crime, perceptions of crime and lower level incidents such as antisocial behaviour, graffiti etc. Over the next few weeks our Team will be in touch with 50 of our Neighbourhood Watch contacts asking for their help. Please participate as this will give the Police a better insight as to how they can provide a better service.
Our Safer Neighbourhoods Team would like our help in launching their “Cops on the Corner” initiative. The first "Cops on the Corner" initiative is taking place on Wednesday May 7 at the West Hants Leisure Club, Roslin Road South, between 11am and 1pm. Come and meet your Safer Neighbourhoods Team who would like to hear from you about any aspects of their work.
There will be another chance to meet the team on Friday May 23 between 6pm and 8pm at the same venue!
Graffiti Watch!
Bournemouth Council recently announced the addition of another Graffiti removal team! This team will remove graffiti, irrespective of whether it is on public or private land. This should lead to a significant reduction of graffiti throughout the town.
